Day 34: Grasshopper bicycle tour

This morning I went on a 25km bike tour around the Mekong islands in 38 degree heat. The tour gets you away from the city into 'real' Cambodia with farms of cows, mango trees, banana trees, ginger, corn, cucumber, pretty much every vegetable going.

We stopped along the way to speak to the locals who are so friendly and welcoming. All of the kids along the route would wave and say hello as we passed. A group of girls even showed us a traditional Cambodian dance. Although there were one or two nice houses along the route, most of the people there live in wooden shacks. They only have one room and sometimes house families of 7 or more. We also visited a silk farm where we were shown how they produce silk and make scarves.  It was a really sweaty day, but totally worth it to see a different side to this place.

This afternoon I went back to Champei for a back, neck and shoulder massage. I feel I deserved one after all the exercise. I fell asleep, again. It was amazing and the women I had was really firm, which I like. For $10 I'd be having one every day at home!

This evening I went to Romdeng training restaurant which came highly recommended. I had the Khmer Muslim beef curry in peanut sauce which was nice. But they served it with French bread as opposed to rice or roti, which I found very odd and the two did not go well together.

I was knackered after my bike ride today so I just had a drink back at my hostel and then went to bed. So excited about Vietnam tomorrow!
