This morning I was picked up at 5am to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat. I was slightly hungover from the night before and came close to puking in the cool box as the tuk tuk was bouncing all over the place! However, it was worth it as the sunrise was really pretty. It was impossible to get a good photo due to the hoards of people surrounding the water. I had to fight my way in amongst the Chinese to get the one I did. I then spent the next hour exploring the temple itself which is really impressive.
My tuk tuk driver then drove me about 15km north to see a waterfall. Tuk tuks aren't the fastest, so this took a while. Then I had to climb a mountain for 1500m in 37 degree humid heat. I thought to myself that this waterfall better be damn worth it. Sadly, it was not. It was a rather pathetic one. On the plus side I think I sweated all the beer out.
I then went back to visit another 4/5 temples and by the end of the day was basically crawling up the temple steps because I was so tired. It was a really long 10 hour day and I was glad to get home for a nice kip before heading out for dinner. Tonight was Cambodian BBQ. Chicken and beef skewers with baked potato, plus happy hour $2.50 cocktails!
After dinner I went to Phare Circus show. It's a performance and art school that provides free training and employment to disadvantaged youths. I actually read about it in the inflight magazine on the way from Bangkok and thought it was worth checking out. I had no idea what to expect and although the concept was a little weird (something about facing fears and anxieties) the performers were amazing. It was a mix of acting, dancing, acrobatics and music. I was pretty much open mouthed the whole way through and impressed with the core strength and balance of these guys!
After the show I met Martin the cute American doctor for a couple of drinks before bed. Let's see what wonderful dates I can find myself in Phnom Phen tomorrow!
