Day 55: Fed up in Beijing!

Today was a struggle. This city is big, and I'm finding it very hard to enjoy it given the amount of walking I'm having to do. Even with taking the metro everywhere the distance between stops and attractions is deceptive. On a map everything looks walkable, but it's really not. What looks like a 5 minute walk on the map is actually about 2km.

I started the day at the Temple of Heaven, which is in itself a huge complex. I spent about an hour there limping around the temples and monuments. Next I went to Tianamen Square, which was literally that, a square with not much in or around it. By this point it's after 1 and I haven't eaten all day so I jump on the metro to an area with lots of cafes and bars. By the time I get there and find somewhere with a seat it's 3pm and I'm ravenous. I have a couple glasses of wine and some food and rest up then grab a taxi to Jingshan Park for views of the Forbidden City. I didn't have time to go into the Forbidden City, nor did I have time to do the Summer Palace because I was so slow on my feet. Anyone who knows me will know how hard it is for me to walk slowly! So so frustrated.I don't think I'll really get to do this city justice, but it is what it is.
