Well today has to be the worst of my trip so far. When I woke up my knee was excruciatingly painful and I had to taxi to the airport as I couldn't walk to the subway. While in the airport I made some calls and managed to book into a medical centre for that afternoon in Beijing. Then my flight was delayed so turned out to be a mad rush to make it to the hospital in time.
The doctor I saw had very basic English and basically just repeated everything I said back to me rather than give me a diagnosis. He had a feel of my knee then said he'd send me for an X-ray straight away. He left the office and returned shortly after saying that my problem is minor and I don't need an X-ray after all as it'll take a long time. He prescribed me some anti-inflammatory medication (which I had to wait about 45 min for because my insurance company was taking its merry time to process it). Given my previous history with injuries, I don't trust doctors, let alone doctors here. I know my body and there's something very wrong. It's very easy for people to tell me to rest up and take it easy. I'm travelling, that's impossible. I'm hoping the pills will take the edge off the pain as nothing's going to stop me continuing with my plans. I can worry about the consequences when I'm home.
I finally get to my hostel around 6pm and it's a bit of a shit hole. The wifi doesn't work and the room smells funky. I have a quick shower and then head out to meet Claire for dinner. Claire is Scottish but has lived here for two years (my mum and dad put me in touch with her as they know her through dancing). She was absolutely lovely and took my mind off of my bad mood. We went to a roast duck place and shared duck pancakes as well as broccoli fried in garlic (best think ever), some sesame beef and some spinach in vinegar. Oh and some shredded potato. We could've fed a small country with our leftovers we ordered so much food. We chatted away all night and she was great company. May even meet up again while I'm here.
After dinner I walked the 400m back to my hotel and the pain came flooding back. I will need to think of doing a tour bus or something tomorrow as I can't walk the distances. I've also had to cancel my Great Wall of china tour as it's a 6km walk. I'm absolutely gutted. Going to search for a shorter tour that doesn't require much walking as I'd hate to come all this way and not see it.
